Partners at Silwood CybercentreLondon & Quadrant Housing Trust found the funding streams
that enabled the Silwood Cybercentre to come into being. Maggie Gebbett
is the project manager from L&Q. Sonia Meggie is the full-time centre
co-ordinator. All staff are employed via L&Q, but aim to make it self
sustaining so that it continues to be a real community resource. L&Q
is grateful to all the other partners who have helped with the cybercentre. The Silwood SRB team are currently funding centre for the next two years. They are keen to see local involvement in running the centre. Lewisham College. The local college is funding some of the training at the centre as part of their drive to get more people into learning - especially in IT. They aim to get people interested in learning then offer them more opportunities at the college. Presentation Housing Association will help the centre on outreach activities and make sure that we all take equal opportunities seriously. Presentation are funding a Saturday School for children at the Centre. Good Neighbours. Local residents have expressed their support for the cybercentre through the activities of Good Neighbours. We hope the people who drop in there will also get used to dropping in to the Cybercentre. Funding. The computers and capital investment at the Silwood Cybercentre has come from the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) as part of the Capital Modernisation Fund. The running costs are paid for partly by the New Opportunites Fund (NOF - part of Lottery Funds), partly by the local SRB funds, and partly by QCI.. UK Online money has helped the development of over 6,000 UK Online centres across the UK. The Silwood Cybercentre is just one of these. |
