Free PC Technician's course - recruiting NOW

This is a brilliant opportunity if you want to get yourself a job as a computer support technician. And it's FREE! There are hundreds of well-paid jobs going in the Docklands for people with PC support skills.

In this 12 week, part-time course we can teach you all you need to know about setting up computers, telephone support, and what goes into a computer to make it work – the software and the hardware.

You do need to know your way round a computer already. You need to be fairly good at using programmes like Word and you need to know how to surf the internet. If you know these things but you aren't very confident about dealing with people – we can help you with those skills. You can also work towards a qualification.

You are probably unemployed and live in the Silwood area. Priority will be given to those who live closest. (If you used to live at Silwood and have been moved out during the redevelopment, you also qualify for a place on the course.)

You don't have to be a whizz kid to get on the course. We are keen to have women learners and age is no barrier.

Please don't start the course unless you intend to stick with it. You will lose your deposit and stop other people getting on the course.

Courses run every 12 weeks and the first one started in Mid April 2002. The next will start in July 2002. If you didn't get on to the first one we can put you on the waiting list.

There will only be 8 to 10 people in your class in the workshop so you do get good teaching from a top computer expert. It's because the government recognises that there is such a shortage of skilled PC technicians that we have managed to get funding to run this free course.

The training is free but you do need to pay a £20 deposit to cover registration, toolkit and book hire. If £20 is out of the question for you - we can help you get a grant for it - which you could get to keep if you complete the course successfully. The course tutor is from Lewisham College.

If you really enjoy the course and want to take your learning further this course links to others at Lewisham College on computer networks - you could even go on to become a top computer expert yourself.

Please call Sonia on 0207 394 0923 for more information on the course. You can also e-mail her at smeggie@silwoodonline.org.uk. Sonia will take your details and invite you along to do a short pre-course session/test.
