Silwood Sculpture Mystery

Picture of a large bronze sculpture called 'Neighbourly Encounter'. A boy and a girl are sitting together on a fence. This picture shows a large bronze sculpture called 'Neighbourly Encounter'. It used to be sited in the centre of the Silwood Estate in the 1960s and 70s. It was removed in the 1980s for renovation.

Since then, the statue has disappeared and no-one knows where it is. We would like to trace 'Neighbourly Encounter' and bring it back to Silwood.

In April 2002 David Grist was interviewed by the South London Press. As a local youngster he and his sister acted as models for the sculpture. That was in 1958! David still has cuttings about the unveiling of the Silwood sculpture in 1964. The hunt for the sculpture goes on.

If anyone has any memories of the sculpture please contact Tony McTurk at the Magpie Centre on 0208-692-7115. You can also e-mail us at silwood@lqgroup.org.uk.
