New estate, new homesOne of the main aims of the regeneration at Silwood is to provide modern new homes that meet local peoples needs and which make use of the most up to date ideas about design and materials. To make sure that we build the homes you want a group of residents, architects, council and housing association representatives has been set up. Called the Design Group they have been working on the design of the new homes for phase one. The group has looked a variety of issues including balconies for flats, room layouts and overall design principles. For example secure by design which ensures that the new homes are designed to reduce the possibility of crime. The new homes will have double glazing, central heating, a high standard of insulation to reduce noise levels and prevent heat loss and so reduce heating bills. All homes will have bathrooms with baths and shower attachments and a kitchen with fitted cupboards and connection points for fridge/freezers, cookers, and washing machines. The houses will also have 2 toilets. If you are interested in how the regeneration is taking shape why not get involved in the Design Group which meets regularly to discuss the plans and building programme? If you want to know more, contact Ferenc Morath, Development Manager at Silwood SRB Team on 0207 232 5672 What else is new?Working with Lewisham and Southwark Councils are two Registered Social Landlords or housing associations, London & Quadrant Housing Trust (L&Q) and Presentation Housing Association (PHA). They are responsible for building the new homes at Silwood and will manage and own part of the new estate once it is built. For existing Silwood residents who want to stay at Silwood and move into the new homes it will mean a change of tenancy. You will stop being a council tenant and become a housing association tenant. To explain what this means and to answer some of the questions you might have L&Q and PHA have produced a booklet called 'Silwood Estate and Housing Associations; Your most frequently asked questions answered.' To get a copy call in at the Silwood SRB Office or contact Robert Cooper at L&Q on 020 8557 2842. |
